The reason we exist as a church is based on two great Biblical passages:
- The Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40): “Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart… soul… and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on to these two commandments.’”
- The Great Commission (Matthew 28: 19-20): “Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’”
Therefore, based upon these two great biblical passages, we have five purposes:
- To “Love God with all your heart through WORSHIP.
- To “Love your neighbor as yourself” through MINISTRY.
- To “Go… make disciples” through EVANGELISM.
- To “Baptize…” through incorporating people into our FELLOWSHIP.
- To “Teach them… all things” through DISCIPLESHIP.
Our History
Central Christian Church is one of the oldest Christian churches in Salt Lake City, Utah. Established in 1890, Central Christian has been a faithful witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in Salt Lake City.
In the beginning, John M. Breeze came to Salt Lake and, finding no Christian church, placed a notice in a local newspaper asking that those interested meet in a local school building. Thirteen people responded. That August, an evangelistic meeting was held and a congregation of 42 members was organized.
A lot was purchased in 1892 and a building program soon followed. During the construction of the original church, worship services were held in a tent. Finally, in November of 1893, the construction was complete and believers in Jesus Christ had a home in Salt Lake City. Over the years Central Christian Church has remained a steadfast witness to Jesus in Utah!
Central Christian Church has been a center for spiritual birth and growth for over 100 years, and the Lord willing will continue to do so till our Lord and Savior calls us home!
